If there is an internal issue with the alternator it can get hot without charging a lot. It is possible for the alternator to get hot, but not because it is putting out amperage. We need to see how much amperage the alternator is putting out to see if that is the issue (charging a lot all of the time).
i just replaced my alternator as the wire in my fuse box located on top of the battery in my 2005 jetta gets very hot and starts to melt the box and my new alternator is not readind the right ampage the parts place told me that this problem is what made my alternator go bad it is the first wire from left to.
